Facebook: The Movie

Who would have thought Facebook would become the success it is today.  Most of us probably thought it was just another fad.  A popular tool for college kids to meet new people and talk about themselves.  Well, we were wrong.  Facebook has become much bigger than a fad.  It’s become a global social network, a branding tool.  Facebook has gone much further then kids posting their minute-by-minute status for all to see online.  Now it’s a platform for advertising, gaming, and dating.  But most of you probably already know this considering most of you probably have a Facebook page.  Well did you know it’s about to hit the big screen?

Yes, it’s true!  In less than a decade Facebook has gone from an online sensation to the Hollywood big screen.  Scheduled for release on October 1, 2010 and based on the book Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, “The Social Network” is the story of how Mark Zuckerberg and his college buddies created the famed Facebook.  Here’s the full description posted on the film’s official website:

“On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.”

Sounds good, but who knows how much of this movie is based on fact.  It’s now a product of Hollywood, which means the story has most likely been hyped-up a bit.  Regardless, they have our attention and it should be interesting to see how the most popular social media site became such a global hit.
